Devon Allman
In a return to his roots, Devon Allman delivered one of the more exciting blues albums of 2025, joining forces with titans Robert Randolph and Christone "Kingfish" Ingram and genre icons Jimmy Hall, Larry McCray, for The Blues Summit from The Devon Allman Project. Call it yet another instant classic. Following that with his relentless international touring in support, Allman, once again, drew critical raves, garnered award nominations, and led the art form further forward into the 21st century. It’s fitting that Allman is celebrating his seminal ties to the blues just as the long-awaited documentary, The Music of My Soul, honoring Allman’s late father, Gregg Allman, premieres in the summer of 2026, with Devon making an appearance in the film.
The Blues Summit release follows 2024’s Miami Moon, Allman’s most ambitious collection of songs to date. That critically hailed LP delved deeply into Allman’s affinity for vintage soul and funky grooves destined to light up the dance floor. The album- tracked at Miami’s historic Criteria studios; home to Derek and the Dominos’ Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, as well as The Allman Brothers Band’s Eat a Peach- features contributions from the funk and jam worlds’ finest, with a stellar cast that includes The Meters’ famed George Porter Jr. on bass, Dumpstafunk’s Ivan Neville on keyboards, and Lettuce drummer, Adam Deitch, plus a guest appearance from the Rolling Stones’ saxophonist, Karl Denson.
It’s all in line with a recent whirlwind of activity for Allman tracing back to September of 2023. That’s when the St. Louis-based musician stood on the stage with his touring partner, Donavon Frankenreiter, at Southern California’s BeachLife Ranch Festival, and collected a world-record achievement for performing 50 concerts in the 50 states of America in 49 days. Still, it seems like Allman is just getting warmed up.
The modern rock troubadour and torch-bearer for the legacy of the blues has led bands such as Honeytribe, Royal Southern Brotherhood, and The Allman Betts Band in equal step with his prodigious solo output and his own Devon Allman Project, racking up thousands of touring miles under the hood, and creatively never standing still. A singer-songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist, producer, and record label chief, Allman has earned widespread critical acclaim, as well as top Billboard chart positions and numerous awards, across two decades of musical heritage and invention.
In 2017, Devon assembled the Devon Allman Project, commencing a 2018-19 world tour with Duane Betts as a special guest. Also, in 2017, Allman founded, curated, hosted, and performed at The Allman Family Revival- an all-star tribute concert honoring his father’s life and music. The inaugural performance, held at The Fillmore in San Francisco, grew into an annual, three-week, coast-to-coast touring event. In 2023, the flagship trek was rebranded as The Allman Betts Family Revival, with the Allman Betts Band serving as the performances’ musical hosts celebrating the legacy of The Allman Brothers Band. Notable Revival guests over the years include Slash, Sierra Ferrell, Jason Isbell, Amanda Shires, G. Love, Marcus King, Cheap Trick’s Robin Zander, Tal Wilkenfeld, Sierra Hull, Anders Osborne, Robert Randolph, Eric Gales, Jimmy Hall, Donavon Frankenreiter, Alex Orbison, Samantha Fish, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Cody and Luther Dickinson, Lilly Hiatt, Lamar Williams Jr. and on and on.
As well, the Texas-born, St Louis-based Allman extends his sphere of influence as a longtime member of the board for the National Blues Museum, helping to preserve and further the craft of that treasured American art form.
