Biography

MONO INC. were born out of resistance against creative compromises, against industry expectations, and for the simple idea of making honest, uncompromising music. Founded in 2000 by Martin Engler, Carl Fornia and Miky Mono, the band spent years searching for their own sound before bassist Manuel Antoni joined in 2003, what they now consider their true beginning.

After being turned down by several major labels, the band took matters into their own hands and founded their very own label NoCut in 2004. Their debut “Head Under Water” laid the foundation for a steadily growing fanbase, built through relentless touring and an unmistakable connection with their audience.

A defining turning point came in 2006: Martin Engler stepped up as frontman, and Katha Mia joined on drums; completing the lineup that would shape the band’s identity to this day. With albums like “Pain, Love & Poetry” and “Voices of Doom”, MONO INC. became a driving force within the Gothic scene, before breaking into wider recognition with their 2010 arena tour alongside UNHEILIG.

What followed was a remarkable journey: chart successes, ever-growing tours and a deep bond with their fans. Albums like “After the War”, “Nimmermehr”, “Welcome to Hell” and the #1 record “The Book of Fire” showcased a band unafraid to evolve, either musically, emotionally or thematically, while always staying true to their core.

Following the pandemic, MONO INC. returned with renewed strength. “Ravenblack” (2023) went straight to #1, followed by an extensive tour. In 2024, the band reached another emotional peak with “MONO INC. Symphonic – The Second Chapter”, bringing their music to the stage in a powerful orchestral setting & releasing in 2025 with "Darkness" another #1 charting masterpiece.

With the echoes of an extencive live touring period still resonating, MONO INC. are entering their next chapter with renewed energy and creative drive. Taking time to reflect, recharge and write, the band is currently working on new material while preparing future live moments. One thing remains unchanged: the deep connection with their fans and the shared promise that has defined MONO INC. from the very beginning – together till the end.
